How I discovered Foundation
Foundation is the best thing in my opinion since sliced bread..lol. With so many factors that play into skin not being so visibly healthy, foundation is an element that gives women or men the passage into a world of even skin tones and "natural" looking beauty. I first discovered foundation in high school. My skin was not really acne prone, BUT what ever pimples i did experience, turned into blemishes only because i was addicted to "popping" them.So basically they were self inflicted blemish scars. I would appear very vain to the visible eye due to the fact that i stayed in the mirror 75 percent of my teenage hood, but i was just a concerned guardian of the feature that plays an important role in a person's first impression of you; my face. After finding that there was a product that could give me flawless coverage and cover my pesky blemishes I was a happy camper. My technique grew tremendously through the years, and that is when i found my calling, Makeup Artistry.
Having an "Eye" for Foundation
It takes a little more than just walking in to a store and just picking up a foundation of which you "think" may match your skin tone. There are factors to consider when finding the perfect 'shade'.:
Undertones:
There are different undertones to consider. An undertone is basically the skin's base color. A person can either have a WARM, COOL, or NEUTRAL undertone. Warm color undertones are usually yellow or golden. Cool undertones consist of red or purplish colors, and neutrals are brown to tan undertones.
So if you buy a cool undertoned foundation and you have a warm or neutral undertone, when you put that on you will appear more red purplish. Thus giving away the secret that you are wearing foundation. because it doesn't match your skin tone exactly.
Skin type:
If you have oily or sensitive skin liquid foundation may not be for you.if you have combination skin you may have to treat certain areas to prevent excess oiliness, and areas that are prone to becoming dry. and so on and so forth. Skin types play a major role when finding a foundation that is right for you. You have to consider that because you have the choice between liquid, cream or powder foundations, one may not work for you as good as the other. DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES ARE : sensitive, dry, normal, combination or oily skin.
Mixing:
9 times outta 10 when you search you won't find a shade that is EXACTLY your skin tone. don't get me wrong if you come across a perfect match get it and don't look back, and there are some people that can go into a store and just pick up they're correct shade, but everyone is different and most likely it will take you a while to find your soulmate..lol But mixing foundation colors are a great wake to tweak and create your perfect match. Don't be afraid to try it! experiment and put in the work and it will pay off.
